Holographic Data Storage - Abstract

Holographic Data Storage

Abstract

The cutting-edge technology of holographic storage is nearing reality, with the first systems predicted to be in commercial use by early 2004 in the broadcast industry for use in archiving video. Tapestry is the name of the first holographic recording system made by InPhase Technologies. This new technology will move the storage of data beyond the surface of a plate and into the 3-D realm with the use of lasers, mirrors, and more. Larger storage capacities and faster transfer rates are in demand and holographic data storage systems will deliver both the speed and capacity needed in the future.
